D is for Diligent

D is for Diligent

One of the greatest joys, IMHO, about being a parent is discovering the unique personality and gifting each child has.  It is marvelous how, like snowflakes, no two people are EXACTLY alike.  We are unique individuals custom designed by God.  In the past seven years Daddy and I have had the privilege of watching our David's personality emerge.  Today we will celebrate one of the strengths of his character: Diligence.

Here  are a few Bible verses that comment on the benefits of diligence:
  • "Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth." Proverbs 10:4
  • "Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor." Proverbs 12:24
  • "The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied." Proverbs 13:4
  • "The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty." Proverbs 21:5
We have seen David demonstrate the quality of Diligence from the time he was a little boy...
  • When David was a little tot, Mommy would line up a row of Cheerios on the handle of her oven drawer when she was cooking dinner.  David would eat them one by one until they were "All gone!"  :)
  • At 17 months old Gigi gave David a container of red Jello to eat at Mimi's house.  He held it all the way home and sat for about 30 minutes in the high chair feeding himself every last bite of it!
  • In school, David will work and work on a concept for a long, long time until he has finished it.
  • David can spend hours focusing on creating and building a Lego masterpiece.
  • David will diligently work on his CBS Bible study until he has completed it.

Now our precious David has turned eight years old  Our prayer is that he would pursue everything he tries in all facets of life (be it physical, mental, spiritual, etc.) with pure Diligence.  May he be diligent to know the Lord through His Word and to discover more and more his God-given gifts and abilities so that he may use them to bring God glory.  Amen.

1 Timothy 4:14-16

14Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you. 15Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
