A Funny Thing about Training Children

Tonight our third little sprout decided (again) to try his hand at "being the boss".  His loving father proceeded to correct him...and correct him...

Our two older boys smiled and couldn't believe what their younger brother had the audacity to pull off.  I asked them, "Do you two think that YOU ever behaved like he is when you were that age?"  They thought about it for a second and responded with little question raised in their voices, "No!?!?"

I just had to laugh.  OF COURSE you tried to act like he is...and the same thing happened to you!  That is why we work so hard to TRAIN you.  Now we can enjoy a pleasant dinner with our big boys because they have LEARNED how to behave at the dinner table.  :)

Proverbs 22:6

Train [a] a child in the way he should go,

and when he is old he will not turn from it.
 Hebrews 12:7-11
"7Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."
 Proverbs 22:15
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,
but the rod of discipline
will drive it far from him.
 Ephesians 6:1-3

"1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2"Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."
