The F's of a FruitLESS and FruitFULL Marriage

Reminder: These ABC's of a FruitLESS or FruitFULL marriage are intended to be fun and though-provoking not "gospel" or absolute.  I think they are useful for providing visible contrasts in our behavior and can help spotlight areas that we are doing well in (or need improvement in) our marriages.

F is for FIGHTING     unnecessary, round and round arguing (quarreling) for the hopeless effort of proving one’s point

F is for FAMILY-ING     the indescribably rewarding and joyful experience of raising children and learning to function as a unified family unit according to God’s design for a family!

Unfortunately, fighting or arguing is a very common language spoken in homes--even Christian homes.  The Word is clear from that quarreling stems from our sinful flesh.  When we fight we are acting like "mere men" who impulsively act from their fleshly nature, not their new nature in Christ.

Furthermore, fighting tends to be cyclical in nature--being triggered by some action or word and spinning out of control until it gets its point across satisfactorily.  It may cease to exist for a time until the next "blow" arouses it and the cycle spins again.

The bottom line about fighting, IMHO, is that 1) It comes from our flesh (not God's Spirit inside believers), 2) It is rooted in self-pride, and 3) It is worthless as 2 Timothy 2:14 says because quarreling about words is "of no value" and "only ruins those who listen".

"13for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
14Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe" Philippians 2:13-15

So...ALLOW God to work in you according to HIS GOOD PLAN FOR YOU!!!  Stop fighting with your spouse...NO COMPLAINING!  NO ARGUING!...with him.  Cast those cares on the Lord instead--He cares for you!  As a result you will BECOME (SMILE: " God's Work in Progress" ) blameless, pure, fault-free, and a shimmery shiny light for Jesus in this dark and sinful world.

Instead of fighting, try family-ing!   I define family-ing asthe indescribably rewarding and joyful experience of raising children and learning to function as a unified family unit according to God’s design for a family!  While it is so true that there are many challenges and trials that come along with raising a family, the JOYS and BLESSINGS far outweigh them.

I will submit to you, however, that the genuine "Family-ing" experience I am referring to will ultimately end up "on empty" without the Lord.  He is " the way, the truth, and the life" and "no one comes to the Father except through Him" (see John 14:6).  We were created by Christ and for Christ.  He hold ALL things together in Him.  We were created to KNOW Him.  God has set eternity (or knowing Christ) in our hearts from the beginning so unless we come to Him we will remain on empty.

The Supremacy of Christ
"15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." Colossians 1:15-17
Here is one of my FAVORITE passages in all the Bible.  It is what inspired me to become Today's Lady Virtue.  I hope you will read it and aspire to become her, too.  Remember to SMILE: God's Work in Progress!  :)

Here are two portraits of a godly man--1) A man who fears the Lord and 2) Overseers and Deacons in the church--great application on the "How-to" of managing a family.

Here are some key scriptures that show us God's design for a family:

Family-ing, by God's design, is a blessing from God above.
Family-ing for Christ the Lord is built upon on His love.
John 14:21 love for God means obeying His commands.
His yoke is easy and burden light--not full of many demands.

Follow God's instructions, my friend, for your family and your life.
Following Christ the Lord, my friend, makes for a happy little wife!
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, strength, and soul.
You'll love your little family more as the Lord you get to KNOW!

Proverbs 11:28-30 (New International Version)

" 28 Whoever trusts in his riches will fall,
but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
29 He who brings trouble on his family will inherit only wind,
and the fool will be servant to the wise.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and he who wins souls is wise."
