The G's of a FruitLESS and FruitFULL Marriage

Gg

Reminder: These ABC's of a FruitLESS or FruitFULL marriage are intended to be fun and though-provoking not "gospel" or absolute.  I think they are useful for providing visible contrasts in our behavior and can help spotlight areas that we are doing well in (or need improvement in) our marriages.

G is for GLARING     the action of contorting one’s face including the beading of one’s eyes and flexing of facial muscles to non-verbally prove the point that one is upset; dirty looks

G is for GIVING     the unselfish and generous action of offering of one’s heart, self, service, time, or gifts for the purpose of blessing one’s souse and showing one’s love for them

Got Fruit?

Do you know that the words we spew from our mouths reflect our inner heart thoughts, feelings, and attitudes?  Two options are available to dispense from our mouths: good or bad.  Both of these reflect what is truly inside us for "out of  the overflow of [man's] heart his mouth speaks" (Luke 6:45b).

Often times these inner thoughts, attitudes, and feelings emerge with full expression from our face.  From my cursory search on facial muscles I found that there are about 36 named muscles in our faces.  These work together in a variety of combinations to produce varying facial expressions--many of them reveal what we think or feel inside our hearts.

While I do believe we can get "good at" masking our true emotions, attitudes, and thoughts with a great big happy face--that is called deception--for today's purposes we will run with the idea that the expression worn on our faces matches the emotion felt in our hearts.  God created us to have these emotions as well as to have the ability to communicate with others.

This topic is very plain and clear to understand.  Therefore, I will submit to you that our marriages are a great forum to experience a myriad of emotions.  Our interactions with our spouses produce many thoughts, attitudes, and emotions--some good and some bad!  The real question here is:  How will we choose to relate these thoughts, attitudes, and emotions to our spouses--in a good or bad, fruitFULL or fruitLESS way?

Parallel Passages about: A Tree and Its Fruit
43"No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks." Luke 6:43-45

33"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him." Matthew 12:33-35

Life by the Spirit - Galatians 5:16-26
16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.  19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
Instead of glaring at your spouse and spewing those sour and fruitLESS words, trying GIVING to him!  He most certainly may NOT deserve it...but then again, neither did we...Remember that God the Father Himself gave us His VERY BEST GIFT.  God loved us SO MUCH that He gave his ONE and ONLY Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but TO SAVE the world THROUGH HIM.  John 3:16-17

Here are some fruitFULL reminders from God's Word, the Bible, on the subject of giving.

NOTE: WHY WAIT?  REAP YOUR BENEFITS ...TODAY!

Sowing Generously - 2 Corinthians 9:5-15
6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9As it is written:
   "He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever."[a] 10Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.  12This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

1 Timothy 6:17-19 (New International Version)

17Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
