Fourth of July Family "Leaves" a Legacy, Part I

Fourth of July Family "Leaves" a Legacy Thirty-six hours and thirty-six extended Cochran family members made for an exciting July 4th! Four fast years whizzed by since our last family reunion. Four whiz-bang years have also produced two new "batches" of babies for our family. Three of the four grown and married Cochran children reproduced in 2007 and again in 2009. Good news is that 2/3rds of this childbearing clan (thus far) have a third batch of babies cooking for 2011. That must be God's hand of blessing upon us, for children are a gift from the Lord (Psalm 127:3).

Swimming, boating, tubing, talking, and of course some FINE eating took place this weekend. "Temptation table" was arrayed with cookies, Neiman Marcus bars, brownies, fresh apple pie, Texas pecan pie, and cakes. We're truly Texan, so Black's bbq from Lockhart, TX also graced our table (and tummies as well). Non-stop pool tourneys, wrestling, football, and playing commenced for the younger folk. So did lots and lots of laughing. The lake home of Papa and Bebe plus good company made for a memorable time in a relaxed and refreshing setting.

Both evenings our family circled up for some "Family Time." The first evening Papa challenged us with some family trivia (How Well do you Know your Family members?). We also recognized nine family members with June/July birthdays with a creative "Can you Guess Whom?" game. Our second, large gathering included a poem I will share in my next post and an amazing powerpoint show put on by Papa with genealogy dating back to the French and Indian Wars and the American Revolution. In fact, General Pickens is a direct grandfather of the Cochrans!

Until next time...!
